Changes to our online service fees
On 1 October 2025, our transaction fees will increase inline with the five year staged approach that we started last year. These gradual adjustments over five years help us avoid a large one off change while maintaining service quality. This page includes information about the fee changes and a comparison table of the current fees and the new fees.
What is changing and why
Our status as an Approve Service Delivery Organisation (ASDO) under the Fisheries Act means that we are responsible for delivering various services to industry at our own cost.
As an industry owned company, we only generate enough income from our fees to cover the cost of delivery and the upkeep of our software system. In 2024 we identified there was a ~$300,000 shortfall across our ASDO fee income compared to our costs. Even with internal efficiencies to reduce costs, we still need to put up fees to ensure we can continue to deliver services into the future.
Last year we announced a five year staged increase, averaging 10% each year. We also adjusted some of the fees to better reflect changes in the services over time. This is the second year of that five year period. This year there will be a blanket 10% increase in fees with the exceptions of removing the Notified Users fee and an increase of 11% for vessel registrations.
We are removing the notified user fee to supports Fishers who work collaboratively through sharing the use of a vessel.
Why do Fishserve charge to provide services delivered online
It costs money to build and run the Fishserve client website that allows you to do the things you need to do online and we also provide support to clients when they need it. Its these costs that we need to recover through our user charges.
Why are Fishserve charging additional fees when they have a contract with MPI?
ASDO services are not part of the registry services contracted by MPI which use Cost-Recovery funds. The Fisheries Act requires an ASDO to recover the cost of providing services.
